In March, Kings Of Leon became the first band ever to release their album “When You See Yourself” as an NFT. Within a week, NFT sales of the album reached around $2 million. More than a quarter of this was donated by the band to the Crew Nation charity, which supports live bands during the pandemic. Special perks of the NFT deal included “Golden Tickets”, which guarantee the owner four front row seats to Kings Of Leon headline tours for life – redeemable anywhere in the world.
But what are NFTs anyway? An NFT stands for “non-fungible token” and is stored on the blockchain. Each NFT is unique, highlighting its potential as a digital collector’s item. As well as music, works of art such as the multi-million dollar work of digital artist Beeple or highlights from the NBA basketball league can now be bought on the blockchain. We spoke to Kings Of Leon drummer Nathan Followill about the launch of NFT.
